Accelerated Reading Program

AR Information

The Accelerated Reading Program is a computerized reading progress monitoring program that helps teachers monitor student’s independent reading practice. Students pick and then reads a book at their individual reading level and reads it at their own pace. When the student finishes the book, they take a short quiz on the computer. Students and teachers then get feedback based on the students' AR quiz results which the teacher can use to help the student set goals and direct ongoing reading practice.

This year we will continue working with Accelerated Reader (AR).
AR Books come in English and Spanish and are marked with colored dots according to their reading level. The dots make it convenient for students to select and read books within their individual levels. Teachers and the librarian help students choose books at an appropriate reading level which are challenging without being frustrating. This helps ensure that students can pass the quiz and experience success. Each child receives individual help and is encouraged to progress at their own pace and set their own reading goals with their teacher. AR is implemented to help all children succeed in achieving their goals and improve overall literacy.
